Ukraine EDRPOU code validator

How the EDRPOU code format works

Format
8 digits with a weighted mod-11 check digit
Example
20077720

Things to watch for

  • Codes beginning with 3, 4 or 5 use a rotated weight set, and if the first remainder is 10 the calculation is repeated with every weight increased by 2
  • Individuals and sole proprietors are identified by their 10-digit RNOKPP tax number, not an EDRPOU code
  • Checksum only — a pass doesn't confirm the organisation is registered or active
Regex for EDRPOU code
^[0-9]{8}$

The EDRPOU code (код ЄДРПОУ) is the 8-digit identification code of a Ukrainian legal entity, such as a company, state body or non-profit. Its name comes from ЄДРПОУ, the Unified State Register of Enterprises and Organisations of Ukraine. It’s the code Ukrainian organisations quote on contracts, invoices and bank payment details.

How the check digit is calculated

Multiply the first seven digits by the weights 1 to 7, add up the products, and divide by 11. If the remainder is below 10, that remainder is the check digit. For the example 20077720, the weighted sum is 121, which divides exactly by 11, so the check digit is 0.

Two refinements make EDRPOU harder to implement than most mod-11 schemes:

  • Rotated weights: codes beginning with 3, 4 or 5 use the weights 7, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
  • Second pass: if the first remainder is 10, every weight is increased by 2 and the sum is recalculated. That gives weights 3 to 9, or 9, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 for the rotated set. A remainder of 10 on the second pass becomes 0.

A validator that skips either rule calculates the wrong check digit for some genuine codes.

Codes for organisations, not people

Individuals and sole proprietors (ФОП) don’t get an EDRPOU code. They’re identified by their 10-digit taxpayer number, and a 10-digit number belongs on the Ukraine RNOKPP validator instead.

What a pass doesn’t tell you

A pass shows the eight digits are arithmetically consistent. It doesn’t show that the organisation is in the Unified State Register, still active, or the party named on a document.

Scope: EDRPOU format and checksum validation only. It doesn’t cover registration status.

EDRPOU code FAQ

Do all EDRPOU codes use the same weights?

No. Codes beginning with 3, 4 or 5 use the rotated weights 7, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. All other codes use 1 to 7. A validator that ignores the rotation calculates the wrong check digit for most codes in that range and wrongly rejects them.

What happens when the remainder is 10?

No single digit can represent 10, so the calculation runs a second time with every weight increased by 2. The new remainder becomes the check digit, and if it's 10 again the check digit is 0. This tool runs both passes automatically.

Does a valid EDRPOU code mean the company is active?

No. It only shows that the 8 digits satisfy the check-digit rule. A liquidated organisation's code still passes. Check current status in Ukraine's Unified State Register before relying on the code.
