Nepal Phone Number validator
How the phone number format works
- Format
- Nepal phone number in national or international (+977) format
- Example
- +9779841234567
Things to watch for
- Accepts national or international (E.164, e.g. +977...) format
- Validated with Google's libphonenumber; confirms the number is possible/valid for this country, not that it is currently assigned or reachable
^[+]?[0-9 ()\-]{6,}$A Nepali mobile number is a flat 10 digits, always starting with 97 or 98 depending on which network range issued it — for example 9841234567. Unlike a landline, it carries no area code and no trunk 0 to strip: adding +977 in front is simple addition, turning 9841234567 into +9779841234567 with nothing dropped or reshuffled. Landlines work differently, pairing a short area code — 01 for Kathmandu, 021 for Biratnagar — with a local number and a leading 0 that domestic dialling requires.
How this validator works
Type the 10 digits alone (9841234567) or with the country code (+9779841234567); this tool checks the length and leading-digit range against Nepal’s real mobile numbering plan using Google’s libphonenumber, entirely client-side. Because mobile numbers have no trunk prefix to account for, the most common failure is a digit count that’s one short or long, or a leading pair outside the assigned 97/98 ranges.
What a pass doesn’t tell you
A pass confirms the 10 digits match a genuine Nepali mobile range — it doesn’t confirm the SIM is currently active or held by anyone in particular. Format validity and live connectivity are separate questions this tool can’t bridge.
Scope: catch a wrong leading pair, a missing digit, or a stray 0 in front of a Nepali mobile number before it reaches a signup form or OTP send — not proof it’s reachable right now.

phone number FAQ
Does a Nepali mobile number carry a trunk 0 like a landline does?
No. Nepali mobile numbers are a flat 10 digits starting with 97 or 98 (9841234567), dialled the same way nationally and internationally — adding +977 in front is pure concatenation, with no leading 0 to strip.
Why do Nepali landline numbers need an area code but mobile numbers don't?
Landlines are tied to a physical exchange, so they pair a short area code (01 for Kathmandu) with a local number and a leading 0 that's dropped for +977 — mobile numbers were assigned later as a nationwide flat range, so they never needed one.
Does a valid format check confirm a Nepali SIM is active?
No. It confirms the 10 digits fall within a real Nepali mobile range under the numbering plan — it can't confirm the SIM is loaded or currently receiving calls, since that needs a carrier-side lookup this tool doesn't perform.
