How this validator works
Type the eight digits as dialed locally (20123456) or with the country code attached (+21620123456); this tool checks the length and the leading digit against Tunisia’s real numbering plan using Google’s libphonenumber, entirely client-side. Because there’s no trunk 0 to strip, the most common error here is the opposite of what other countries see: someone adds an extra 0 out of habit, turning a valid eight-digit number into an invalid nine-digit one.
What a pass doesn’t tell you
A pass confirms the number is shaped like a genuine Tunisian mobile or landline — it says nothing about whether that SIM is topped up or that landline connected. A correctly formatted number can still be dormant or reassigned.
Scope: this catches a wrong digit count or an accidentally added 0 before a Tunisian number reaches a form or SMS gateway — it is not a network or carrier-status check.

Why doesn't a Tunisian number need a leading 0 removed before adding +216?
Because Tunisia never assigns a trunk prefix in the first place — the number dialed at home is the same eight digits used internationally. 20 123 456 domestically is simply +21620123456 with the country code attached, no digit dropped.
How can I tell whether a Tunisian number is a mobile or a landline?

Does a valid check confirm the Tunisian SIM is switched on?
