Kazakhstan Почтовый индекс validator
How the Почтовый индекс format works
- Format
- 6 digits
- Example
- 010000
Things to watch for
- Format-only check — does not confirm the почтовый индекс actually exists
- Always exactly 6 digits with no separators
- Kept the Soviet-era six-digit index length introduced in 1971, the same scheme still used in Russia and Uzbekistan
^[0-9]{6}$A Kazakh почтовый индекс (postal index) is the 6-digit code Kazakhstan Post (Қазпошта) uses to route mail — for example 010000 for Astana. The six-digit length is a direct holdover from the Soviet postal indexing system introduced in 1971, which Kazakhstan kept unchanged after independence rather than adopting a shorter national scheme, the same choice several other former Soviet republics made. Anyone validating a Kazakh shipping address, a checkout form, or a spreadsheet of customer records needs the index in the right 6-digit shape, leading zeros included, before it’s trusted.
Because leading zeros carry no visual weight, they’re the digits most likely to get silently dropped when a form or spreadsheet treats the index as a number instead of a string — quietly shortening a valid code into an invalid one.
How this validator works
This tool checks that the input is exactly 6 digits with no letters, spaces, or hyphens — leading zeros preserved — entirely in your browser, with nothing sent to a server.
What a pass doesn’t tell you
A почтовый индекс carries no check digit, so matching the 6-digit shape is the most a client-side tool can confirm — not that Kazakhstan Post has assigned it to a real city or delivery office. Confirming that requires Kazakhstan Post’s own postcode lookup.
Scope: this page and tool cover format validation only — not address lookup or confirming an index is currently in use.
Почтовый индекс FAQ
Why does Kazakhstan use a 6-digit postal index?
It inherited the Soviet Union's six-digit indexing system, introduced across the USSR in 1971, and kept the same digit length after independence in 1991 rather than redesigning it. Russia and Uzbekistan run the same six-digit length for the same historical reason.
What is Astana's postal index?
010000 — the leading zeros are a real part of the code, not padding, since Kazakhstan's index blocks are assigned starting from 01.
Does a correctly formatted почтовый индекс mean it actually exists?
No. This tool only confirms the string is 6 digits — it doesn't check it against Kazakhstan Post's actual assignment list. Confirming an index is real, and seeing which city it covers, requires Kazakhstan Post's own postcode lookup.
