Anyone validating a Lithuanian shipping address, a checkout form, or a spreadsheet of customer records needs the pašto kodas in the correct 5-digit shape before it’s trusted.
Because it’s a bare run of digits with no separator, a dropped or transposed digit produces a code that still looks entirely plausible.

Has Lithuania's postcode always been 5 digits?
No. After independence, Lithuania first used a shorter 4-digit code. The current 5-digit LT-NNNNN system replaced it in 2005, giving the postal service more room to encode district and street-level detail than the earlier scheme allowed.
What does the LT- prefix mean?
It's the ISO country prefix used for international mail, e.g. LT-01100. This validator checks only the 5 numeric digits — the LT- prefix is a separate presentation convention, not part of the postal code itself.
Does a correctly formatted pašto kodas mean it actually exists?
No. This tool only confirms the string is 5 digits — it doesn't check it against Lietuvos paštas's actual assignment list. Confirming a pašto kodas is real, and seeing which street it covers, requires Lietuvos paštas's own postcode lookup.
