Vietnam CCCD (Căn cước công dân) number validator

How the CCCD (Căn cước công dân) number format works

Format
12 digits: 3-digit province/city code + 1-digit century-and-gender code + 2-digit birth year + 6-digit serial number
Example
001090123456

Things to watch for

  • Format-only check — does not confirm the CCCD was actually issued or belongs to a real person
  • The first 6 digits encode province/city of birth registration, century, gender and birth year, but this checker only validates the overall 12-digit shape — it does not decode those embedded fields
  • Runs entirely in your browser — the number you enter is never transmitted or stored
Regex for CCCD (Căn cước công dân) number
^[0-9]{12}$

Vietnam’s CCCD (Căn cước công dân, or citizen identity card number) is the 12-digit number issued by C06 — the Police Department of Administrative Management on Social Order, part of the Ministry of Public Security (Bộ Công an) — for example 001090123456. It replaced the older 9-digit CMND (Chứng minh nhân dân) as the country moved to a chip-based citizen card, and its extra 3 digits aren’t padding: the CCCD packs in more embedded structure than its predecessor did.

The first 3 digits identify the province or city where the birth was registered, the 4th digit combines a century indicator with the holder’s gender, and the following 2 digits give the birth year — the remaining 6 digits are a serial number that distinguishes people who’d otherwise share every earlier digit.

What this checker verifies

This tool confirms the input is exactly 12 digits, which catches a wrong length or a stray character carried over from a copy-paste of an older 9-digit CMND by mistake. It does not decode the embedded province, century, gender or birth-year segments.

What a pass doesn’t confirm

A 12-digit match doesn’t mean C06 actually issued that CCCD or that it belongs to a real person — this checker validates shape only.

Scope: format-only validation, running entirely in your browser — nothing you type is transmitted or stored.

CCCD (Căn cước công dân) number FAQ

What do the first digits of a Vietnamese CCCD mean?

The first 3 digits are a province or city code for where the birth was registered, the 4th digit encodes century and gender together, and the next 2 digits are the birth year — the remaining 6 digits are a serial number.

Is the CCCD the same as the older CMND?

No. The CCCD (Căn cước công dân, 12 digits) replaced the older CMND (Chứng minh nhân dân, 9 digits) as Vietnam's citizen ID. This checker validates the newer 12-digit CCCD format, not the retired 9-digit CMND.

Does a correctly formatted CCCD confirm it was actually issued?

No. This checker only confirms the input is 12 digits in the right shape — it doesn't decode the embedded province, century, gender or birth-year fields, or confirm C06 actually issued that number to a real person.
