Ghana Phone Number validator
How the phone number format works
- Format
- Ghana phone number in national or international (+233) format
- Example
- +233231234567
Things to watch for
- Accepts national or international (E.164, e.g. +233...) format
- Validated with Google's libphonenumber; confirms the number is possible/valid for this country, not that it is currently assigned or reachable
^[+]?[0-9 ()\-]{6,}$A Ghanaian mobile number is 10 digits in national form, opening with a trunk 0 followed by a two-digit prefix from the 02x or 05x ranges and seven more digits — 0231 234 567, for instance. That leading 0 disappears the moment +233 replaces it, so the same number in international form is +233231234567: nine digits after the country code, not ten.
How this validator works
Enter the number as written locally (0231234567) or already in international form (+233231234567); this tool checks the 10-digit national length and the operator prefix against Ghana’s real numbering plan using Google’s libphonenumber, entirely in your browser. Because Ghana has issued mobile ranges across both the 02x and 05x blocks over the years, the validator recognizes the full current set rather than a single fixed prefix — the failure it flags most often is a leftover 0 kept after +233 was already added.
What a pass doesn’t tell you
A pass confirms the number matches a genuine Ghanaian mobile shape — it doesn’t confirm the SIM is active or currently topped up. Ghana’s competitive prepaid market recycles numbers once they go dormant.
Scope: use this to catch a missing digit, an invalid prefix block, or a leftover 0 after +233 — not as confirmation the number is reachable today.

phone number FAQ
How many digits does a Ghanaian mobile number have in national form?
Ten, always starting with 0 — for example 0231 234 567 — built from a trunk 0, a two-digit operator prefix such as 02 or 05, and seven more digits. Drop the 0 for +233 and nine digits remain.
Why does Ghana have so many different mobile prefix blocks?
As mobile demand grew, the regulator issued new two-digit blocks under both the 02x and 05x ranges rather than extending a single prefix — so 024, 054, 020, and 050 among others are all genuine active ranges, not typos of each other.
Does a valid check mean the Ghanaian number is currently in use?
No. It only confirms the digits match a recognized Ghanaian mobile pattern under the National Communications Authority's numbering plan — it can't confirm the SIM is currently topped up or switched on.
