Iran Phone Number validator

How the phone number format works

Format
Iran phone number in national or international (+98) format
Example
+989123456789

Things to watch for

  • Accepts national or international (E.164, e.g. +98...) format
  • Validated with Google's libphonenumber; confirms the number is possible/valid for this country, not that it is currently assigned or reachable
Regex for phone number
^[+]?[0-9 ()\-]{6,}$

An Iranian phone number comes in two shapes: a mobile number written nationally as 09XX XXX XXXX, or a landline pairing a 2-3 digit area code (21 for Tehran) with a local subscriber number. Both use a leading trunk 0 for domestic dialing, and both drop it the instant +98 is added — 0912 345 6789 becomes +989123456789, ten digits after the country code for mobile.

How this validator works

Enter the number in national form (09123456789) or full international form (+989123456789); this tool checks the digit count and prefix against Iran’s real numbering plan using Google’s libphonenumber, entirely in your browser. Mobile prefixes (9XX) and landline area codes sit in different digit ranges, so a mobile number typed with a landline’s shorter area-code structure — or vice versa — is the most common way an otherwise plausible Iranian number fails here.

What a pass doesn’t tell you

A pass confirms the number’s shape matches a genuine Iranian mobile or landline pattern — it says nothing about whether that specific SIM is active or the line connected. Mobile numbers are reassigned once a plan lapses, so a well-formed number isn’t proof of ownership.

Scope: useful for catching a wrong area code, a missing digit, or a leftover 0 after +98 before a number reaches a form — not a live reachability check.

phone number FAQ

What does an Iranian mobile number look like nationally and internationally?

Nationally it's 09XX XXX XXXX — 11 digits starting with a trunk 0. That 0 is dropped for the international form, leaving 9XX XXX XXXX (10 digits) after +98, e.g. 0912 345 6789 becomes +989123456789.

Why do Iranian landline numbers vary in length?

A landline pairs a 2-3 digit area code (21 for Tehran, for example) with a subscriber number, and the total length depends on which area code was assigned — so two valid Iranian landlines can differ by a digit or two while both being correctly formatted.

Does a valid format check mean the Iranian SIM is active?

No. It confirms the digits match a real Iranian mobile or landline pattern under the numbering plan — not that the SIM is currently active or the line connected, which needs a carrier-side check this tool doesn't perform.
