Iraq Phone Number validator
How the phone number format works
- Format
- Iraq phone number in national or international (+964) format
- Example
- +9647912345678
Things to watch for
- Accepts national or international (E.164, e.g. +964...) format
- Validated with Google's libphonenumber; confirms the number is possible/valid for this country, not that it is currently assigned or reachable
^[+]?[0-9 ()\-]{6,}$An Iraqi mobile number dials nationally as a 3-digit network prefix — 077, 078, or 079 — followed by 7 more digits, with a leading trunk 0, for example 0791 234 5678. That 0 is always dropped for international form, leaving exactly 10 digits after +964 — noticeably longer than the flat 7-8 digit plans common in neighboring Gulf states. Landlines follow a regional area-code pattern instead, with Baghdad using 1 and other governorates using their own codes.
How this validator works
Enter the number nationally (07912345678) or with the country code (+9647912345678); this tool checks digit count and prefix range against Iraq’s real numbering plan using Google’s libphonenumber, entirely in your browser. Because the national number is longer than most numbers in the region, the most common mistake is dropping a digit by accident when converting to +964 form rather than only stripping the trunk 0.
What a pass doesn’t tell you
A pass confirms the digits match a genuine Iraqi mobile or landline pattern — it says nothing about whether that SIM is currently active or the line connected. Numbers are reassigned by operators after inactivity, so a well-formed number isn’t proof anyone is holding it today.
Scope: use this to catch a missing digit, an extra digit, or a kept trunk 0 after +964 before a number reaches a form or SMS platform — not as proof the SIM is currently active.

phone number FAQ
Why is an Iraqi mobile number longer than numbers in neighboring Gulf countries?
Iraq's mobile numbers run 10 digits after the country code — a 3-digit network prefix (077, 078, or 079) plus 7 more digits — noticeably longer than the flat 7-8 digit plans used in Kuwait or Qatar, reflecting a larger population and a different numbering-plan design.
What happens to the leading 0 in an Iraqi number when converting to +964?
It's dropped. A number dialled domestically as 0790 123 4567 becomes +9647901234567 — the trunk 0 is stripped, leaving 10 digits after +964.
Does a valid check confirm an Iraqi number is currently active?
No. It confirms the digits match a real Iraqi mobile pattern under the numbering plan — not that the SIM is loaded or reachable, which needs a carrier-side lookup this tool doesn't perform.
