^[0-9]{11}$Nigeria’s National Identification Number (NIN) is the 11-digit number the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) assigns to every registered resident, for example 12345678901. It’s required for opening a bank account, registering a SIM card, and a growing list of government and financial services.
Unlike Indonesia’s NIK or Vietnam’s CCCD, a NIN’s 11 digits don’t encode a date of birth, gender or location — NIMC generates it as a random number tied only to the holder’s biometric and biographic record on file, so nothing about the person can be read from the digits themselves. It’s also worth not confusing the NIN with the separate 11-digit Bank Verification Number (BVN), Nigeria’s banking-sector identifier used for financial verification — the two look similar in length but come from different registries and serve different purposes.
