Rwanda Phone Number validator

How the phone number format works

Format
Rwanda phone number in national or international (+250) format
Example
+250720123456

Things to watch for

  • Accepts national or international (E.164, e.g. +250...) format
  • Validated with Google's libphonenumber; confirms the number is possible/valid for this country, not that it is currently assigned or reachable
Regex for phone number
^[+]?[0-9 ()\-]{6,}$

A Rwandan mobile number runs 10 digits at home: trunk 0, a prefix from the 72, 73, 78, or 79 range, and the remaining digits, as in 0720 123 456. Swap that 0 for +250 and the number becomes +250720123456 — nine digits after the country code, not ten.

How this validator works

This tool takes either the locally dialed form (0720123456) or the full international one (+250720123456) and checks the 10-digit national length and the 07x mobile prefix against Rwanda’s real numbering plan via Google’s libphonenumber, entirely in your browser. Because Rwanda’s active ranges sit inside one narrow prefix family, there’s less room for a wrong-block error — the most frequent issue is still a 0 left in place after +250 has already been added.

What a pass doesn’t tell you

A pass confirms the number matches a genuine Rwandan mobile shape — it doesn’t confirm the SIM is active or currently topped up. A well-formed number is no guarantee it’s reachable right now.

Scope: catch a missing digit, a wrong prefix, or a leftover 0 after +250 before a Rwandan number reaches a form or SMS platform — not proof it rings through.

phone number FAQ

Why is a Rwandan number one digit shorter in +250 form than the local version?

Because that first 0 is a domestic-only trunk prefix. Swap it out for +250 rather than keeping both, and 0720 123 456 correctly becomes +250720123456 — nine digits after the country code, not ten.

How many mobile prefix blocks does Rwanda use?

A relatively narrow set compared to some neighbors — 72, 73, 78, and 79 are the active ranges, all under a single 07x family rather than spread across multiple two-digit groups.

Does a valid check confirm the Rwandan SIM is currently reachable?

No. It only confirms the digits fit a real Rwandan mobile pattern under the national numbering plan — not that the SIM is topped up or switched on, which needs a network-side lookup this tool doesn't perform.
