Tanzania Phone Number validator
How the phone number format works
- Format
- Tanzania phone number in national or international (+255) format
- Example
- +255621234567
Things to watch for
- Accepts national or international (E.164, e.g. +255...) format
- Validated with Google's libphonenumber; confirms the number is possible/valid for this country, not that it is currently assigned or reachable
^[+]?[0-9 ()\-]{6,}$A Tanzanian mobile number carries 10 digits domestically — trunk 0, a two-digit prefix from the 06x or 07x range, then seven more digits, as in 0621 234 567. Replace that 0 with +255 and the international form is +255621234567: nine digits after the country code, not ten.
How this validator works
This tool accepts either the locally dialed form (0621234567) or the full international one (+255621234567), running the digits through Google’s libphonenumber to confirm the 10-digit national length and a genuine 06x or 07x mobile prefix — all client-side, nothing sent anywhere. Because Tanzanian mobile ranges span two separate prefix blocks, the check recognizes both; its most common catch is still a 0 left behind after +255 was already typed.
What a pass doesn’t tell you
A pass confirms the number matches a genuine Tanzanian mobile shape — it doesn’t confirm the SIM is currently active or topped up. Tanzania’s large prepaid market means a well-formed number is no guarantee of who holds it today.
Scope: use this to catch a missing digit, a wrong prefix block, or a leftover 0 after +255 — not as proof the number is reachable.

phone number FAQ
How many digits does a Tanzanian mobile number have in national form?
Ten, starting with a trunk 0 followed by a two-digit prefix from the 06x or 07x ranges and seven more digits, for example 0621 234 567. Drop the 0 for +255 and nine digits remain.
Why do Tanzanian mobile prefixes span two different digit blocks?
Because operators were issued ranges under both 06x and 07x as the market expanded — 65 through 69 and 71 through 79 are all genuine active blocks, reflecting successive rounds of number allocation rather than one fixed prefix.
Does a valid check mean the Tanzanian SIM is currently active?
No. It only confirms the digits fit a real pattern under Tanzania's numbering plan — it can't confirm the SIM is topped up or switched on, which needs a carrier-side check this tool doesn't perform.
